Antique glass beads were what originally brought me to study how glass had
been made historically. I have studied glass bead making sites throughout the
world, the techniques used in making beads, trade bead routes and the interesting
use of color throughout history.
In 1986, I was blessed with the opportunity to study with a first generation
student of the famous United States lamp worker John Burton, learning how to
make vessels, mix colors and learned a broad scope of design elements and
techniques in torch work. However, my heart was in making jewelry, so I have
taken this knowledge and continued to self-teach as it applied to jewelry making.
Relocating in 1987 to Northern California, I continued my jewelry work and
began including glass pieces in my designs which I had made in my studio. My
choice of glass materials continues to be diverse; layering remains my favorite
technique to achieve the depth and dimensional quality reflected in my work and
color provides the artistic impetus for all of my designing.
While I continue to be recognized for my expertise in glass jewelry designing,
I have expanded into creating artistic designs of everyday functional objects for
the home and office -- wonderful gifts for ourselves and others!
My love of glass as a unique medium allows me to express my joy in the use of
both color and light. I hope you too will enjoy my pleasure and will find my
efforts worthwhile!
